Cutline

Shopify app · launching soon

Every product photo deserves a cutline.

In a newsroom, the cutline is the line of text under a photograph — the words that tell you what you are looking at. Cutline writes one for every image in your Shopify catalogue: accurate, search-friendly, in up to twelve languages. One flat price. No credits, ever.

How it works

Install it once. Stop thinking about alt text.

No spreadsheets, no bulk-edit apps, no copywriter. Cutline works through the whole catalogue and then keeps up with it on its own.

01 / SCAN

It reads your catalogue

Cutline finds every image with missing or weak alt text — products, variants, the pictures you forgot were there — and queues them up. Nothing to configure.

02 / WRITE

It actually looks at the picture

A vision model reads the image itself, together with your product title, type, vendor and tags, then writes a real description. Choose SEO style or accessibility style.

03 / KEEP UP

It stays current

Add a product at 2am and its images are described before you wake up. Translations follow your published locales automatically.

Specimens

What a good cutline reads like.

Descriptive enough for a screen reader, specific enough for Google Images, and never starting with “image of”.

Pricing

We don’t sell credits. We can’t be bothered to count.

Every other alt text app meters you, because every image they describe costs them money — they are reselling somebody else’s AI. Cutline runs on our own dedicated GPU. Describing one more image costs us electricity, so we stopped charging you for it.

Credit-metered apps the usual

  • ×Every image costs a credit. Every re-generation costs another.
  • ×Each extra language multiplies the bill.
  • ×A growing catalogue means a growing invoice.
  • ×Your product images are sent to a third-party API.

Cutline flat

  • Unlimited images. Ten products or ten thousand, same price.
  • Rewrite as often as you like — it isn’t a credit, it’s a button.
  • Up to 12 languages on one plan.
  • Inference runs on our own hardware in Europe. Nothing is resold to an AI vendor.

Free

$0

First 50 images, one language. Enough to see it work on real products.

Unlimited

$9.99 / month

Your whole catalogue, one language, forever. No image counter anywhere in the app.

Multilingual

$19.99 / month

Everything above, in up to 12 languages, following your published Shopify locales.

Fair use on every plan: three re-generations of the same image per day. That protects the GPU — it is not a credit.

Why it matters

Two audiences read your alt text. Neither of them is you.

A / PEOPLE

Shoppers using a screen reader

Without alt text, your product page reads out as “image, image, image”. With it, they can actually shop. Since June 2025 the European Accessibility Act makes this an obligation for e-commerce in the EU, not a nicety.

B / MACHINES

Google Images

Alt text is the main way search engines understand what a photograph shows. An unlabelled catalogue is a catalogue that cannot be found by picture — and image search is how a lot of people shop now.

C / NOBODY

The person writing it by hand

Three hundred products, five images each, four languages. That is six thousand small sentences nobody has ever had time to write. This is the part we automated.

Questions

The honest answers.

Is it really unlimited, or is there an asterisk?

Really unlimited on images. The only limit is fair use: three re-generations of the same image per day, which exists so one store cannot monopolise the GPU. There is no image counter and no top-up button anywhere in the app.

Where do my images go?

To our own server in Europe, and nowhere else. The model runs on hardware we own, which is also why we can afford flat pricing. We do not send your images to OpenAI, Google or any other AI vendor, and we do not train on your catalogue.

Will it overwrite alt text I already wrote?

No. Cutline only fills in images with missing or obviously weak alt text unless you explicitly ask it to rewrite a selection. Your own words win by default.

Does this make my store legally compliant?

It removes one of the most common accessibility failures in an online store, and a big one. It is not a certification, and no software can honestly promise you compliance — the European Accessibility Act covers much more than images. We help with the image part, properly.

Which languages?

Up to twelve, following the locales you have published in Shopify — including European Portuguese as distinct from Brazilian, which most tools get wrong.

Who builds this?

A working engineer in Portugal, running it on his own hardware, without investors telling him to add a credit system. If you email, you get him.
